Admissions is simply the process of getting you from that first phone call to your first day of treatment. We have kept it short and transparent on purpose, because the people who call us are rarely in a position to navigate paperwork and long wait times. Most of what follows can be handled in a single conversation.

Our Step-by-Step Admissions Process

There are four stages between your first call and your first day. Our admissions team handles the parts that are usually the most stressful, including verifying your insurance and matching you to the right level of care, so you are not left working it out alone. How it works

Step 1: Call us. It all starts with a simple phone call. Our friendly and compassionate admissions team will explain the recovery process and answer your questions. We may gather some basic information about your needs. The initial phone call doesn't have to take long, and no commitment is required.
Step 2: Verify insurance. If you decide to proceed with our program, we can address financial concerns by checking your health insurance coverage on the spot. Capital accepts most NH Medicaid plans, making care affordable.

Cost & Affordability

At Capital, patients with Medicaid can expect affordable coverage. Clients who qualify will be covered for a full continuum of care, and your assessment determines which parts of that continuum you actually need. Most clients move through several of these stages rather than all of them, and our treatment modalities page explains what each stage involves in more detail.

A full continuum of care may include:

3-7 days of medical detox
28-90 days in our partial hospitalization program with supportive housing, around 5-6 hours of structured treatment a day
9-12 hours of intensive outpatient treatment each week
Ongoing outpatient mental health care and continued support

What to Expect on Your First Day

Walking through the door for the first time is the part most people worry about. Knowing what actually happens makes it easier. Your first day is built around getting you settled, not overwhelming you with information, and you can see the setting on our facilities page before you arrive.

Your first 24 hours

What to bring. A photo ID, your insurance card, a list of any medications you currently take, and comfortable clothing. If you are staying in supportive housing, pack for about a week. Laundry facilities are available.
On arrival. A member of the admissions team meets you, walks you through the remaining paperwork, and shows you around the facility so the building stops feeling unfamiliar.
Your assessment. You will meet with a clinician who reviews your history, confirms your level of care, and builds the first version of your treatment plan with you.
Settling in. If supportive housing is part of your plan, we help you move in and introduce you to the staff and peers you will see every day.

Traveling to Treatment from Out of State

Our facility is in Boscawen, New Hampshire, a few minutes north of Concord and within a straightforward drive of most of New England. We regularly welcome clients traveling from Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine. For many people, putting some distance between themselves and the environment tied to their substance use is an advantage rather than an obstacle.

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport is roughly forty minutes away, and our admissions team can help coordinate transportation on the day you arrive. Does Capital Recovery Health accept Medicaid?

Yes. We accept NH Medicaid and work with most New Hampshire Medicaid plans, including New Hampshire Healthy Families, Amerihealth Caritas, and WellSense. If you are covered by one of these plans, we can verify your benefits over the phone and tell you what your care will cost before you commit to anything.

How long does the admissions process take?

The first phone call usually takes fifteen to twenty minutes. Verifying your insurance and completing a clinical assessment can often be handled the same day. How soon you start treatment depends on your assessed level of care and current availability, and our team will give you a realistic timeline on that first call.

What should I bring to treatment?

If you will be staying in supportive housing, pack for roughly a week, as laundry facilities are available. Leave valuables at home. Can I come in the same day I call?
